Sensory Wellbeing
Maybe you've noticed your little one, child or teenager struggling with the environment around them, with their self-cares and mood, or in playing with others.
Perhaps you, or your loved one, regularly experiences invisible barriers to participation: feeling overwhelmed, fixated, stressed out or lethargic when it comes to some or all daily activities.
Sensory processing patterns can be helpful or a hindrance - understanding how your patterns, which are unique to you and often change across each day, can be a really helpful stepping stone towards finding balance, achieving goals, and being your best self.
I am a firm believer in functional sensory assessments and programs - before we meet, you'll be emailed a sensory questionnaire to determine you or your loved one's usual patterns and preferences. When we meet, we will then analyse your daily routines and demands to find the best strategies to both calm and energise body and mind in each of those contexts.
Sensory patterns can impact:
Self-cares: brushing teeth or washing hair, following a morning routine promptly
Mealtimes: trying new foods, eating a nutritious diet, being able to eat in different environments (e.g. home, school)
Activities outside the home: shopping, visiting family and friends
Safely and happily engaging with friends and learning at ECE or school
Travel: learning to ride a bike, coping with journeys in cars, buses, on planes, travelling safely in car seats
Exercise: gross motor, body awareness, playing with others, exploring the world safely and actively
Becoming a new parent: sleep deprivation alongside sensory demands (touch, smell, noise) can feel overwhelming at times
